Why business internet changes from city to city
Internet providers build city by city and street by street. Google Fiber picked Kansas City, Kansas as its first city in 2011 and spread across much of the metro from 2013, but it skipped some cities. Comcast’s Xfinity is the main cable company in Independence, Olathe and parts of eastern Jackson County, while Spectrum covers most of the rest. Electric cooperatives such as United Electric, through United Fiber, have built fiber across St. Joseph and the northern edge of the metro. The result is that two offices 15 minutes apart can have completely different choices.
Each city page shows the networks the FCC map lists for that city, where the business areas are, and what we check before you sign. If your city is not listed, we still serve it. Contact us or use the form and we will check your address.
Missouri or Kansas side?
The state line runs through the middle of the metro, and it matters more than people expect. Taxes and fees on telecom bills differ between Missouri and Kansas and between cities. Some providers report much wider coverage on one side than the other: Everfast Fiber reports high coverage across much of Johnson County, Kansas, while United Fiber reaches in from the north on the Missouri side. Phone numbers are another detail: 816 and 975 on the Missouri side, 913 on the Kansas side, and 816 again in St. Joseph. We keep your numbers when you change providers.
