Why copper lines are going away
Traditional copper phone lines, often called POTS lines, are expensive for carriers to maintain. Carriers are retiring them, and many have raised prices on the lines that remain. The devices that depend on those lines still need to work, and many are required by code.
What usually runs on POTS lines
- Fire alarm panels and monitoring
- Elevator emergency phones
- Security and burglar alarms
- Fax machines
- Gates, door entry and call boxes
- Card terminals, modems and other older devices
How replacement works
- Find every line. We review your phone bills and confirm what each line is for.
- Choose the right service. Usually a device built for alarm and elevator lines, with cellular service and battery backup.
- Coordinate approvals. We plan the change with your alarm monitoring company and, where needed, your local fire official.
- Switch over and test. The new service is tested before the copper line is disconnected.
- Cancel what you no longer need. Old lines come off your bill.
Property managers and multi-site businesses
Apartment communities, office buildings and businesses with many locations often have dozens of copper lines. We inventory them across every site and replace them on a schedule that fits your budget and your inspections.
