Independence is AT&T and Xfinity country
Independence was not among the cities named in Google Fiber’s 2013 metro expansion, and its internet market looks different from Kansas City’s. On the FCC map, AT&T reports high fiber coverage with speeds up to 5 Gbps, and Google Fiber reports moderate coverage. The cable company is Xfinity, from Comcast, rather than Spectrum, which only reports a small footprint here.
For many Independence businesses, the real comparison is AT&T fiber against Xfinity cable, with Google Fiber in the parts of the city it reaches. Larger sites should also look at dedicated internet from UPN, Zayo or Cogent, which report smaller but carrier-grade footprints.
Growth along Little Blue Parkway and I-70
The Independence Chamber of Commerce points to the Little Blue Parkway interchange on I-70 as the catalyst for business growth in eastern Independence. The city’s largest private employers span manufacturing, health care, food production and insurance services, and the Independence Regional Ennovation Center incubates new companies in biotech, food and technology.
For new buildings on the east side, plan internet with the lease. Fiber in the street is not the same as fiber in the building, and construction can take months. A fixed wireless or 5G line can carry you until it is ready and then stay on as your backup.
Manufacturing and multi-site businesses
Plants and warehouses in Independence often need more than one connection and a way to manage several sites together. SD-WAN combines two connections at each site and moves traffic to the healthy one. If you are also replacing old copper lines for alarms, elevators or fax, our POTS line replacement page covers the options.
About the provider data. The network list on this page comes from the FCC’s Broadband Data Collection (availability as of December 2025). The FCC counts a provider as available in an area when it reports it can serve locations there, so a network on the map may still need to build to your building. We check each one at your address before you compare prices.
